Food License / FSSAI Registration (FSSAI Licence)

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a legal authority that offers a food license to all food business operators (FBO) in India. All the FBOs must follow all the rules and regulations of FSSAI for food quality control.

An FBO requires an FSSAI License or Registration and it all depends upon certain factors like the size of production, managing nature of food business activities, and range of operations. In the FSSAI Registration process, the FBO will get a 14 digit number that needs to be printed on food packages.

Steps involved:
FSSAI registration or license basically depends on the business volume and premises. It depends on the capacity or turnover that an applicant premises are eligible for the license such as central license, state license, registration, railways etc.

Following are the procedure of FSSAI registration:
  • Step-1 It is initiated by the submission of Form A (application) to food and safety department.
  • Step-2 The application may be accepted or rejected by the department within 7 days from the application date.
  • Step-3 If the application is accepted, a registration certificate will be granted by the department along with the registration number and the photo of the applicant.
  • Step-4 Prominently, FBO should display the certificate of the registration at the place of business during the business hours
